One skein of deep purple, onion skin dyed yarn. Skeins are between sport and fingering weight and millspun from Montana Suffolk wool and bamboo. This combination makes each skein or sock biodegradable when your project comes to the end of its life. Suffolk wool is also a down type wool, which makes it resistant to felting. I was my socks made from this yarn in the washing machine on a cold wash setting and have had no felting. I do still line dry my handknits. Each skein is 50 grams , and 150 yards total. The onion skins I dye with are food scraps from my household, friends and family. They get a second life in my dyepots before making their way to the compost pile.
My personal knitting recommendation: choose two of your favorite colors and knit your socks with contrasting toes, heels and cuffs, or stripes if you enjoy them!
All of my dye work is done from my home studio in the woods of NW MT. This is a hand-dyed yarn, there are no dye-lots and skeins may vary slightly. Alternating skeins is recommended. Some discharge of dye in the first few washings is normal and to be expected, it can be triggered by changes in ph and mineral content of the wash and/or rinse water. I dye in my home studio using well water whose ph and mineral content varies seasonally and may be different from yours. Ships from a pet friendly, low scent, non- smoking home studio.
